Look for one login that covers every child, a send that checks contact restrictions, and a first screen with the letter, the form, the trip, the booking, the absence and the balance. Leave the MIS as the register, and leave the money in the school’s own account. A newsletter on its own will not stop the phone ringing.
Get them to show who is excluded, not just the class name. Ask what happens when permission has never been recorded, and whether an emergency still reaches a blocked contact. Ask if two adults can each be billed for part of the same trip without seeing each other’s balance.
Then ask what you will still run somewhere else. Parents need a tile for the caterer, the homework tool and the music service, with the real link on it. Otherwise they email the office for the address they had in 2022.
Attendance stays in the MIS. Casework stays with the DSL’s system. If you take cards, they should land in the school’s own account. You want a parent app, not a second register and a second bank.
The first screen should show what is due for each child, and it should say when there is nothing due. Password resets in the first week of term will fill the office. An email code is enough to get them in.
Plenty of schools keep it. The app should show what is owed and link out to the collector you already use.
Parents ring about forms, bookings and what they still owe. Those need to sit with the letter.
